The Probate Court of Coweta County appointed Mark Andrew Gomez as
guardian of the property of Gary Wayne Thompson in October of 1995. Four months
later, Mark Andrew Gomez requested to be appointed, and was additionally appointed,
personal guardian of Gary Wayne Thompson.

These dual guardianships entrusted Mark Andrew Gomez with a large sum of
money that was a part of the assets of Gary Wayne Thompson and the responsibility for
the personal care of Gary Wayne Thompson.

Mark Andrew Gomez’s position as guardian of the person and property of Gary
Wayne Thompson placed him in the position of having the exclusive responsibility for
the care of Gary Wayne Thompson. The positions of Mark Andrew Gomez as guardian
of the person and guardian of the property will receive the abbreviated designation,
“guardian” in this Complaint.

At the time of his appointment as guardian, Mark Andrew Gomez was a
member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia, a former Captain in the U.S. Army,
a former Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, a former Assistant District Attorney, a member
of the bar of two U.S. District Courts, a member of the bar of the United States Supreme
Court, admitted to practice before the Court of Appeals of Georgia, admitted to practice
before the Supreme Court of Georgia and a prominent Newnan attorney.
